I can’t quite believe we’re in mid-February already… it’s MAD! Although, as with everyone else I’m definitely counting down the seconds until lockdown 3.0 is over. It’s not that I don’t still enjoy my weekend walks, takeaway coffees and home cooking – I do, but I just miss the choice. Yet, despite not being able to go out and about, I have to admit that my lockdown Valentine’s Day this year was pretty spectacular given that we were staying in (as with every other day of the week) and a little different to last year where G and I headed out to Dinings SW3. Instead, G had planned ‘something’ for Saturday night and I was intrigued and naturally assumed some sort of dinner was on the cards. I didn’t for one second think that I’d be having a valentine’s Delamina EAST takeaway – only one of my favourite local restaurants in London!
Delamina EAST offers seasonal dishes that combines eastern Mediterranean with home cooking – all plates that can be shared and bursting with flavour. I first stumbled upon this hideout after a 1Rebel class in Liverpool Street – I was craving brunch and this aesthetically looking gem looked like just the spot. I had what can only be described as the most intriguingly delicious eggs Benedict I’ve ever had. See below the description and photo…
BENEDICT BALAGAN OF CHARCOALED SMASHED AVOCADO & MIXED PEPPERS, SUMAC BABY SPINACH, POACHED EGGS,PAPRIKA HOLLANDAISE, NIGELLA SEEDS & CRISPY KALE ON TOASTED ENGLISH MUFFINS
Sounds and looks scrummy doesn’t it?!
We were supposed to go back some time last year (but covid got in the way of that didn’t it…) Anyways, for Valentine’s Day evening (after I laid the table, poured a pink G&T and added some gold star sprinkles to the table) I was more than delighted when I saw the plan for the evening. G had ordered a ‘finish at home’ kit from Delamina EAST via Restokit – a platform that allows restaurants to reach people’s homes in the form of meal kits. There were so many half prepared pots of food that I was both nervous and excited to what the outcome would look like. Luckily we were provided with an extensive menu that gave you step by step guides on how to cook everything. Not only that, but how to prepare it in a way so that it maintained it’s insta-worthy appearance.
The food was fresh, flavoursome, delicious, filling and just incredible – I honestly can’t recommend it enough. Hands down this Delamina EAST takeaway was the best that G and I have ever had! It was also quite fun assembling all the food together on plates and I won’t like I think we did a pretty good job on the visuals!
G and I opted for the ‘Earth’ menu because I’m veggie, but there was a ‘Land’ and ‘Sea’ option too. It was my dream menu – starting with dips and pita, before moving onto a variety of small plates that all had their own unique flavours and twists. See our full menu below…
CRISPY SPICY CHICKPEAS
TAHINI & ZHOUG WITH FLUFFY PITA
ROASTED MUSHROOMS SMOTHERED WITH HARISSA & HONEY, CASHEWS PARMESAN & SOURDOUGH CRUMBS
ROASTED ROUND AUBERGINE COURGETTE SLICES, CHARGRILLED MARINATED PEPPERS, ZA’ATAR LABNEH, ROASTED PINE NUTS & BALSAMIC REDUCTION
CHARRED CAULIFLOWER, LEMON-ZEST INFUSED CRÈME FRAICHE, POMEGRANATE MOLASSES & SEEDS
CRISPY ROSEMARY POTATOES ON GARLIC-INFUSED YOGHURT
All in all, my lockdown valentine’s with a Delamina EAST takeaway was pretty special – I ended the evening very full of food and very content. Without a doubt I’ll definitely order from here again, I just need an excuse!
